Crystal Lake Park District Nature Center
Wanders at Wingate
On the last Sunday of the month, from May through September, our Volunteer Site Steward, Jim Wigman, leads a nature hike through Wingate Prairie. These hikes allow you to see the best of the prairie as it progresses throughout the season. From the woodland wildflowers in the spring through the asters and goldenrods as we head into fall, your knowledgeable guide will take you to some of the best places to view nature’s beauty. All of the “wanders” are special, but the last of the year is even more so as you experience the prairie from the comfort of a wagon. Registration is not required, and there is no fee to participate. Hikes start at the Nature Center (the wagon ride in September starts from the Lorraine Street parking lot) at 2:00 PM and last approximately one hour.
