Civil War: The Ravages of War

Commemorating the end of the Civil War in April 1865, our event will interpret the effects of the war on Crystal Lake families. We are proud to host the 17th Corps Field Hospital which is a member of the Living History and Historical Intrepretations Associations. Learn about the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) and the US Sanitary Commission. Volunteer historians will provide first person accounts of area residents and share their exhibits of Civil War artifacts and clothing.

Farming in the Fabulous 1950's

During the 1950's, the land surrounding the Palmer House was still an active working farm. A recent donation to the Crystal Lake Historical Society from the Burman family gives us a glimpse into the working dairy and farmstead. Come see 50's faming equipment, cars of the era or enjoy a wagon ride around the farm. Kids can enter a Hula Hoop contest while listening to sounds from the 50's. Put on your poodle skirt or varsity jacket and join us for a blast to the past at Palmer's Corner.

Sunday, August 9

Wheels of Progress: 150 Years and Still Turning

From early settlers use of oxen to ready their fields, to the first trains that steamed through our area. Transportation has een the key to progress. The grounds will host a working team of oxen, the Wheelmen-a group of high wheel bicyclists, early automobiles and many more examples of transporation over the last 150 years. Complete your day with a wagon ride around Palmer's Corners.
