Free Family Fun at Rockhound Fest on Sat, May 31

Rockhound Fest is on its way to Crystal Lake next weekend, a new family-friendly event that provides a powerful learning experience for all ages. Sat, May 31, 10 am-2pm at the Colonel Palmer House, attendees can enjoy a variety of hands-on activities and educational demonstrations. Activities include Featured Exhibit Tours, Historic Jewelry Demos, Rock Painting, Archeology During the 1800’s, Breaking Geodes, Mining, Lapidary Art, Mason Architecture and Minerology Chemistry.

The Colonel Palmer House was built c.1858 by settlers Gustavus and Henrietta Palmer. Located on its original site, the home was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Currently the home is maintained by the Crystal Lake Park District and is home to the Crystal Lake Historical Society.
